WHO MADE YOU?

Artificial intelligence is reaching our mental and physical existence like never before in the history of human kind. The film leads us to the world of cyborgs, sex robots and androids. Eye-opening scenes from Finland, Spain, Sweden, Greece and Japan reveals the on-going processes and developments in global level. The film asks what the development of AI means to us as human beings. What does it mean for humanity, community, and how it will affect our perception of human? What are the values we want to hold on to?

IIRIS HÄRMÄ

 

Iiris Härmä has experience as a producer, director and writer in documentary film productions in her own Guerilla Films company which was founded 1999. Her background is in Ethnology and Cultural Studies in which she received MA in University of Turku, and Film Studies diploma from The New School University, NY. Her award-winning short and feature-length documentaries have acclaimed international reputation in various film festivals around the world. Her film Leaving Africa was screened in more than 50 international film festivals and won many awards like Margaret Mead Filmmaker Award.

This film project started from a realization that I am no longer sure what is science fiction and what is reality. Artificial intelligence is developing in staggering speed. The whole mankind is going to experience one of the largest changes right now and it is captivating but also frightening. It is frightening because I felt that I am an outsider and powerless in front of this development. I did not really know how to react and what to feel about it. Therefore, I started my journey of exploration to ask questions and make this film.

 

AI will find its way to every level in our daily life, and not all of it is wanted. Computers and new technologies will change our essence and challenge our morality. The film asks what the development of AI means to us as human beings. What does it mean for humanity, community, and how it will affect our perception of human? The development of digitalization and robotization is so rapid, that robots with AI are already thought to be a new species in the planet.
